Searching for Artificial Life with AI

Foundation models are being used to explore simulated worlds and search for unexpected self-organizing patterns. Digital life is not necessarily biological life.

Computational experiments can explore self-organisation and evolving patterns in simulated environments, sometimes using machine learning to search larger spaces of possible rules.

A visually complex or self-reproducing simulation does not by itself establish the existence of biological life or general intelligence.
